Mike left us to go to that higher life. Once again, Tough Guy looms - the big one - alledgedly "the safest most dangerous taste of physical and mental endurance pain in the world." This piece written by a veteran is a pretty good summary of what it involves. This year, we're running in rememberance of the ultimate Tough Guy, Major Mike Parke. If you don't know Mike's story, you can find out more at his blog http://mikeparke.co.uk/. Mike and his amazing wife Kady (pictured left) were good enough to support us in person last year, making a long journey North on a freezing day in January, and cheering us on from muddy fields despite Mike being in the middle of a course of chemotherapy. Mike posted a set of photos from the day here: http://mikeparke.co.uk/2011/02/02/tough-guy-photos/ We're delighted that Kady ( now a half-marathon veteran herself ) is planning to be there cheering us on again this year, as we try raise money for Salisbury Hospicecare Trust ( Salisbury Hospicecare Trust Charity Registration No: 1123314 ), who did a great job helping Mike, and Tough Guy's own 'Fund for Heroes Sanctuary' ( donations are divided 50/50 between these charities ). The charity number for the Fund for Heroes Sanctuary isn't shown on the left, but it is: Charity Registration No. 1102444 |
